Youth Ministry
YOUTH at State Street United UMC
Student Sunday school
Our students meet each Sunday morning from 10:00-11:00 on the upper level of the building in room 209. During this time, they will explore the people, the stories, and the lessons of the Bible to understand how God might show His will in our lives. Our goal for the students is for them to seek growth in their faith in Jesus Christ and in their love for Him and the people around us.
“LET THE WORD OF CHRIST DWELL IN YOU DAILY.”
— Colossians 3:16
Sunday Evening State Street umc youth
Youth Fellowship
Our students meet each Sunday evening on the upper level in rooms 209 and 211. Students arrive at 5:00 and leave at 7:00. Their time together includes a supper, games, fun activities, and fellowship. Their lessons occur separately based on age group. We know that we grow in our love for each other and those around us by spending time together and by praying, serving and studying together. The Sunday Evening Fellowship includes young people from several schools in the city and the surrounding areas.
“May Christ dwell in your hearts through faith so that you will be rooted & grounded in love.”
— Ephesians 3:17
FAITHFUL IN SERVING HIM
F.I.S.H. Club
F.I.S.H. or Faithful in Serving Him meets throughout the school year and is for ages preschool through 12th grade. This ministry meets on Wednesday Night from 5:30-7:30. The students are served a meal followed by worship and then we break the large group into small groups for a lesson and discussion. This ministry is a community outreach program and all are welcome. During youth, we have two small groups that meet together for spiritual enrichment lessons and music. Our objective is for the students to grow in faith, grow in their relationship with God, and grow in their relationships with others. F.I.S.H. Club is a ministry that brings together students of varying demographics in a place of unity in the Word.
“Come follow me and I will send you to fish for people.”
— Mark 1:17
Safe Sanctuaries
SAFETY
Safety and security of your children is paramount at State Street. Nursery staff and regular children’s ministry volunteers are required to pass a background check and complete an annual Safe Sanctuaries training. Our nursery staff are CPR certified and trained in first aid. For more information on safe sanctuaries, click here.
Youth Opportunities
Youth Mission & Outreach
We are excited about organizing and participating in service projects and mission opportunities. These ministries typically take place on weekends during the year and provide the opportunity to serve our local community in Jesus’ name. Some of these ministries include Sharing Christ Ministry in downtown Bristol, the snack pack ministry, helping at Holston Home for Children, and working at the food pantry. Students may also be able to participate in national and international mission trips. Every December we focus on giving to others. We do several different projects during this month. We are also involved in Sharing Christ Ministries, this is where we serve food to the less fortunate at the Sharing Christ Worship Center on State Street. The youth also participates in district mission opportunities, most recently we went to the Holston Home for Children to help put up Christmas lights for the Christmas season.
National Mission Trips
Each Summer our group is fortunate enough to go somewhere in the United States. Our latest Mission Trip was to Lake Junaluska, NC at the end of June. This trip had an amazing speaker, a great band, and a beautiful setting. It was hard not to experience God’s presence while we were there. All of us drew closer to God during worship, group time, and leisure time. We had an awesome experience! Come be a part of this life-changing trip, you will never be the same.
International Mission Trips
In May we got to experience a nine day mission trip to Guatemala, Central America. This trip was an amazing opportunity to see God work in another place in such a big way. He used the people of Guatemala to touch each one of our hearts while we were there. We may have been on a mission trip to help them, but they truly touched each one of our lives. Every year our church goes on an International Mission Trip. Come join us and experience God in a whole new way.
“The Son of Man came to serve, not to be served.”
— Matthew 20:28
Disciples for Christ
Confirmation class
Confirmation is a critical time for students as they explore what being a Christian is all about. The students will spend 13 weeks learning about Christianity and the United Methodist Church. Students will have activities and projects that are specially assigned to them to help them learn about different aspects of Christianity. At the end of their time they may wish to be confirmed into the church. Confirmation is not something to be taken lightly and we will encourage a time of spiritual growth, where these students can experience the love of God.
The United Methodist Church hymnal says:
Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ’s holy Church. We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit. All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.
Through confirmation, and through the reaffirmation of our faith, we renew the covenant declared at our baptism, acknowledge what God is doing for us, and affirm our commitment to Christ’s holy Church.
“AND NOW WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GET UP, BE BAPTIZED, AND WASH YOUR SINS AWAY, CALLING ON HIS NAME.”
— Acts 22:16
