Patty Kilbreath, our parish nurse, is at the center of many of our nurture ministries. She offers counsel and educational programs to encourage physical and spiritual wellness, offers regular blood pressure screenings, and cooperates with our pastors to visit our members who are hospitalized or homebound.
Sunday Morning Bus Service
Our accessible bus with a wheelchair lift transports residents of Broadmore and Brookdale senior care facilities to and from church each Sunday morning for the 11:00am worship service. State Street’s professional driver and friendly volunteers ensure that our precious seniors are well taken care of and arrive safely.
Members of our church family are organized into teams to provide meals for families in our congregation who are mourning the death of a loved one. They usually try to provide the meal on the day of the visitation or funeral. They prepare a meal for up to twenty-five people and deliver it to the family’s home.
We remind our homebound members of our love and care by sending cards, making phone calls, and by visiting them. Our We Care coordinators will arrange to collect greeting cards from our Sunday school classes. Individual members of our congregation volunteer to make calls or visits to some of our least mobile church family members.
Communion At Senior Care Facilities
On the first Monday of each month, one of our pastors and some volunteers from our congregation visit Broadmore and Brookdale senior living facilities to celebrate a brief service of Holy Communion. We meet in the common area at Broadmore at 11:15am and in the second floor activity room at Brookdale at 1:30pm.
Communion Visits With Our Homebound Members
Our pastors and parish nurse make visits to some of our homebound members during the first week of each month. You’re welcome to join them and put the “community” into communion.
It’s harder to love our neighbors when we don’t know our neighbors. So, our nurture committee has worked over the past few months to assemble a new photo and information directory, which we plan to publish in the first quarter of 2016. Our plan is to update this directory each year.
Our church body is dynamic and growing. As we have four separate services during the week, we arrange annual events to bring our entire family together for fun and fellowship. A church favorite is our annual church picnic in the summer; it’s a great way for us to grow closer to each other in fun and love.
